Vicki Hedrick of Mariposa Handwovens has been weaving for over 30 years and is still in love with the process of creating fabric from thread! She lives in Carlinville, Illinois (USA) and has a nicely stocked shop on Etsy. Her business name, Mariposa, means butterfly in Spanish. She often finds her inspiration in Nature, experimenting with texture and color through the use of novelty yarns and the weaving patterns she uses.

Dawn McCarthy of Bewove is a Manchaster, England transplant who has made her home in New Jersey, USA. She teaches weaving in the Philadelphia/New Jersey area and at the Newark Museum of Art. Her weavings, made into functional accessories for both body and home, explore complex designs like damask, multi-harness weaving and combining elements of surface design and the structural elements of creating cloth.

Margery describes her process:  "Color, pattern and texture--and their interplay--intrigue me. I weave slowly, savoring every part of the process. This includes spinning the yarns myself, and adding "eccentric threads" and other surprises to each piece to make a special textile that is a little bit quirky and one of a kind. My favorite materials are silk, wool and luxury fibers."

TAFA Team Etsy Pick of the Week: Red and White Handwoven Tea Towel

Something about summer makes me think of red gingham.  Well, I think about red gingham quite a lot actually.  But seeing this red and white handwoven tea towel  by Thistle and Rose Handweaving out of Centerville, Utah, I think SUMMER TIME!  (Can you tell that I'm very excited that it finally looks and feels like summer out here in N. California?)  Martha Witcher, the creative force behind Thistle and Rose is a self-taught weaver and her Etsy shop is filled with beautiful utilitarian handwoven pieces for the home.
