An Opportunity for TAFA Artists

 by Linda Moran, Marble-T Designs

Since I updated my profile on Linked In, I have joined a couple of discussion groups through Linked In and have made some interesting contacts and done some very good networking.  As a result, here is a call for work that looks very intriguing, as well as meaningful. I'm planning to do a marbled piece that looks at oil spills. Join in and become part of the group. Feel free to share this post - let's see if we can get a lot of artists involved. Let's get fiber and textiles into this show.

Cherry Blossoms Show in Vancouver, British Colombia

"Spring Blossoms"  Art Quilt by Terry Aske

I'm thrilled to announce that my newest art quilt Spring Blossoms will be displayed at The Silk Purse Gallery in Ambleside, West Vancouver from April 5th to 17th.

It is one of several fiber and textile works in the "Cherry Blossoms: A Textile Translation" exhibition.  This show,
in conjunction with the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival, will feature works made in a range of techniques from indigo to sashiko dyeing to fusing real blossom petals to quilted and painted surfaces. This third annual cherry blossom exhibition promises to delight with entries by 16 artists from BC, Alberta and Japan. There is a Japanese legend that the cherry blossom generates positive energy.  Come and experience the positive vibe at the Silk Purse Gallery.

The opening reception will be Tuesday, April 5th from 6pm to 8pm.  I'll be there, and would be thrilled to see some of my friends!  See the attached brochures for more information.

Or, drop by the gallery between April 5th and 17th.

The Textile and Fiber Art List on Etsy: TAFA Team Holiday Promotions

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.
It turns what we have into enough, and more.
It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity.
It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.
Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.
~Melody Beattie

Today we celebrate Thanksgiving in the United States.  Be thankful.  Have gratitude.  The nation embarks on its annual migration, crossing cities, fields and states, by plane or by car, to arrive.  We cook beautiful meals, set a fancy table, and let food, laughter, drink and warmth fill the cup of bounty.  Football is somehow tied into this.

The next day all hell breaks loose.  People flood the malls: sale!  sale! sale!  No parking.  Tempers flare, grabbing happens.  Not very nice at all.  We eat and rest on Thanksgiving to prepare for the marathon of Black Friday.

Many of us shudder at this insanity.  We work hard at what we do, price fairly, but there is always this pressure to join in and follow the mass hysteria.  Etsy's forums are jammed with promotions.  It somehow seems contradictory.  Handmade for cheap?  At the same time, this economy has been tough on people and many who would like to support us just can't.  So, some of us do have promotions going on.  We offer these to you as a gift of thanks.

Mode Dance Performance - Ariane Mariane Fashion Show

PHOTO J.ANTENAT (50).jpg

From the 16th to the 19th of September the new collection of art-to- wear  "Ariane Mariane” was revealed to an enthusiastic public in a spectacular way: a danced fashion performance.

The concept of associating two artistic expressions – fashion and dance – was envisioned and coordinated by Eric Jacob and created by choreographer Sonia Boissiere. They bewitched the audience with their ardor and very successful improvisations.

Ariane Mariane: “I can’t imagine a more fantastic and joyful show. The performance
underlined the happiness and playfulness I want to transmit with my work. I’m touched and grateful and want to thank all of these fantastic persons who participated to realize this awesome project.”

A Batik Wedding by Susan Itkin

The bride and groom surrounded by
my batik wall hangings and scarves.

This past spring I had an exhibit of my batik wall art and scarves at the Maurice M. Pine Public Library Gallery in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. I have had several library exhibits over the years, but this particular gallery space is very unique for a library; it was actually set up to be gallery, not an afterthought in a library hallway or foyer. The gallery is quite large, has many white walls at angles, and can be viewed not only at eye level, but also from the balcony above.

A wedding surrounded by batik.

The woman who manages the gallery was extremely helpful setting up the show. An artist herself, and experienced with the gallery, she had great ideas (like draping my scarves on pieces of tree brances) and hung the show beautifully.

View of the library and the batik show from the balcony.

One day when I stopped by to check in on the show, someone said to me, "Have you seen the photos of the wedding that was held in the gallery?"   Wow - I was so surprised and flattered that a couple I didn't even know - friends of the library director - wanted to be surrounded by my batik for their wedding ceremony. A few weeks later I heard that they stopped by the gallery, where another exhibit had replaced mine, and they asked what had happened to "their" exhibit! Very cool.
